We cleaned out the garage recently, and when we opened one of the boxes to see whether it was dumpster-bound, we saw two of Mom’s old recipe boxes we didn’t even know we had.
We had most of the recipes copied, and many have already been published here, but we found a couple that we thought were lost forever. Mamcik’s paté recipe is here, as is a Sachertorte recipe we think is in Mamcik’s handwriting and Mom’s somewhat dangerous bourbon balls. We’re not saying you’ll have the reaction she had when the pastry chef at Andre’s went a little overboard with the bourbon one day (it was so powerful that she was afraid all the way home that she’d be pulled over by a traffic cop), but the bourbon makes itself known, if you know what we mean.
For the next few weeks, we’ll publish some of the ones we remember. We hope you’ll enjoy them as much as we did.
